Psychotherapy • EMDR • IFS + Somatic Experiencing

I provide an integrated mind body and spirit approach to psychotherapy in my work with both individuals and couples. I believe that people have an innate capacity to heal and to deepen their connection to self, others, the world and the present moment. I offer practical tools to help you achieve a greater sense of vitality, calm and well being and find relief from the patterns that have kept you stuck. It is my goal to create a safe and compassionate space in which your strengths and resources can be accessed and the negative experiences from the past that continue to affect the present can be processed and resolved.

My clinical approach is drawn from my training in somatic and mindfulness based therapies as well as EMDR.  I am also trained to teach the Mindful Self Compassion 8 week program and have been inspired by the impact that self-compassion can have on the therapeutic process to promote healing.

EMDR (Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing) and Somatic Experiencing are both methods for processing trauma.  These are positive adjuncts to traditional talk therapy in which we reprocess difficult events from the past. With EMDR,  we use bilateral stimulation through eye movements, theratapper, or headphones, to access memory networks in which trauma is stored, so that they can be reprocessed. Somatic Experiencing is a body based therapy in which the fight, flight, and freeze responses stored in the body can be accessed and completed. These modalities can allow you to have a greater sense of freedom, ease and flexibility regarding the past which can create more space and availability for change in the present, as well as an expanded sense of hope and vision for the future. Internal Family Systems is a model in which we see that the mind is divided into subpersonalities, or parts. We spend time hearing from and getting to know these parts, helping them to feel seen and heard, and ultimately to trust our Self so that they can unburden the pain that they are carrying. We learn that there are no bad parts and we lean into the possibility of change where we can allow our Self nature to shine through, leading to more balance and harmony in our internal system.
